Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful fathers out there! Today was a day to celebrate our Dads and to thank them for all the ways they love us.

In our house, we’ve gradually moved away from giving physical gifts. Instead, we focus on experiences together- and today was no exception. To be honest, there wasn’t even a plan for the day when we woke up… we just let the day unfold. In the morning, my pre-school daughters were so excited to give their Dad the little home-made cards they had worked so hard on, and to hug him. By early afternoon we decided spur-of-the-moment to pack up for a visit to a near-by beach, followed later by a dinner at a restaurant. When we got home early evening, several friends and neighbours wandered outside to enjoy popsicles on our doorstep while the kids ran around on the grass. The evening was filled with giggles, games, laughs, sticky popsicle hands and faces, and hilarity ensued as Daddy accidentally kicked a ball over the fence and into another neighbour’s yard.

As the day comes to a close, it’s nice to remember that sometimes the best way to show love and appreciation isn’t through a hallmark card or store bought gift- it’s through spending time, building bonds, and making memories together.

“Love needs time and space… everything else is secondary.”
