Minimalism is about removing the excess in our lives in order to focus on what is really important. It takes courage to live a life of simplicity and work to change old habits of busyness, consumerism, and comparison. It takes a new level of awareness to put people ahead of things. It takes effort to live intentionally and cultivate our passions into something beautiful.
Intentionally living with less will affect the big decisions in life, and the small choices throughout the day. It’s not a decision we make once, but something we choose to live by every day: a never-ending journey. It will change the way we live.
Don’t be intimidated if your choice to have less is something that other people don’t understand at first. Don’t be afraid to go against the grain and live differently. Strive to have a heart that is patient and peaceful, and you will see the fruits of simplicity and minimalism in your life.
Perhaps rejecting materialism in our society goes against the grain. And it’s not always easy to choose the things that are important. But that doesn’t mean that it’s not worth it in the long run. Sometimes it means rejecting some of the material things we ‘want’ in the moment in order to step back a bit and discover what we truly need.
The good news is: we need a lot less than we think we do.
