I love learning about ways that families can spend less time on technology, and more time together! We haven’t ever had a TV in our home, but we do currently have Netflix that our kids can watch on a laptop. We feel this is a middle-ground, and the beauty of having videos on a laptop is that when the show is over, the laptop gets put away on a shelf out of reach. Often once it’s out of sight, it’s also out of mind! We find our kids ask for TV way less often when it’s not right in front of them, and it also helps us be mindful of how much screen time they have had in a day.
The benefits experienced from not owning a TV include:
-More time
-Less distraction
-More conversations
-Less advertising
-More playing
-More time for a hobby
-More reading
“So please, oh please, we beg, we pray,
Go throw your TV set away,
And in its place you can install
A lovely bookshelf on the wall.
Then fill the shelves with lots of books.”
